Beginning a job search can be a rather daunting task as it’s not something you do on a regular basis. If you are returning to work after a long absence or are looking to switch careers or just want a change, chances are that you have doubts about proceeding. Preparing a well-written curriculum vitae that covers complete work, education and training history is vital to ensure job-seekers get to the next stage.
A CV is a marketing tool. With your CV you will be able to promote yourself. Imagine the CV as being a brochure that will list the benefits of a particular service. The service being your experience, education and training! When writing a CV, look at it from an employer’s point of view. Would you stand out against the competition (the other candidates) and would the manager want to invite you for an interview? You have to ask yourself these questions when writing your CV.
Networking and interviewing are essential for your job hunt and your CV is just the first step in the job search. However a CV will be your first contact with potential employers and will hopefully open the door. If you are invited for an interview you would then be in a position to explain and expand on what is in your CV.
A CV is an essential tool in your job search. When applying for a vacancy you generally first have to send your CV to present yourself to the prospective employer. It can also be used as a reference when completing job applications and during interviews.
When the CV does its job, the next step is the interview. There are several different types of interviews: Telephone, formal, informal, competency, behavioural, technical and panel interviews, but don’t let these scare you. They are all designed to select the right person for the job.
A fantastic job interview doesn’t just happen; it is the result of hard work by the candidate. Candidates need to do a variety of homework before attending the interview. From ensuring you know the interview location and how long it will take to arrive, to dressing correctly as first impressions only come round once to answering the questions using a myriad of personal experiences ensures you will showcases yourself to the best of your ability.
Both the CV Workshop and the Job Interview Skills Workshop are ideal for everyone. Whether you need to learn the basics or want a refresher, the courses are designed to provide learners with all the skills to succeed.
